The strategic direction that a business travels in is vitally important. In this chapter, we will be exploring how we define strategy, and the practical tools that bankers can use to help them analyse a business including SWOT, PESTLE and Porter’s Five Forces. We will also consider the importance of corporate social responsibility and define who the stakeholders are that businesses need to be aware of. We will examine in detail how we use these strategic tools to help highlight the issues a business might be facing and also analyse the potential risks in a business.
We will also discuss some of the key commercial sectors that bankers need to be aware of.
