In this chapter we will be examining the different types of lending product and service that are available for a banker dealing with commercial customers. An important skill for any banker is the ability to match the products and the services that the bank can provide with the needs of the customer. It is an obvious thing to say but no customer is the same as another, and the needs of each customer can be quite different. Having said that, it is possible to group needs together and whilst a banker should not try to place ‘square pegs in round holes’, a skilled banker can recommend structures for lending which work for the customer and the bank.
