Appendix A. Industry Standards

Many industries are developing their own data models that encapsulate the core data entities that are used by organizations in the industry. The aim is often to improve integration between organizations, or to have standards where vendors can create tools or complementary offerings. The sections that follow illustrate models from three industries.

Telecommunications Models

The most popular model in the Telecom industry is the TMF11-led SID. The Information Framework (SID) is a reference model and common vocabulary for the information required to implement the Business Process Framework (eTOM) processes. See http://www.tmforum.org/InformationFramework/1684/home.html for more information.
