dust-free environment for the disk. Unlike some other types of hard disk
units,
however, the Winchester is permanently sealed - the disk is not
removable, and the sealing will be disturbed only if repairs are needed - and
that will require an air-conditioned workshop. This sealing into a clean dust-
free space allows the gap between the head and the disk to be made much
smaller than could be contemplated for a floppy disk, smaller than a grain of
dust or a particle of
smoke.
