“I’m sorry, but this isn’t what I want to do. I’m going into print.”
This was once a common sentiment among a sizable portion of journalism students entering required video production or broadcast skills courses. Many professors also heard the opposite (always misguided) sentiment: “I’m interested in TV news, but I don’t like to write [or don’t like AP style, don’t like newspapers, etc.].” The journalism profession has historically been divided along what sometimes resembled political party lines – print people versus broadcast people – but in recent years these divisions have become less meaningful.
