7Endpoint Security Management
Endpoint security management is fundamentally about controlling the devices where users work, credentials are exercised, and adversaries most often gain their first durable foothold. In modern environments, endpoints are both the primary source of actionable security telemetry and the most common platform for execution, persistence, and privilege escalation. Effective programs treat endpoints as a governed fleet, built on consistent baselines, reliable agent coverage, disciplined privilege control, and logging that supports fast triage and confident investigation. The operational challenge is sustaining that control under constant change, including configuration drift, necessary exceptions, and the inevitable tradeoffs between hardening and business productivity.
The Endpoint as a Primary Battleground
The modern endpoint is where most meaningful security decisions are made in real time, often before a human ever sees an alert. Identity is exercised from endpoints, sensitive data is created and staged on endpoints, and privileged actions are initiated from endpoints even when the target is in a cloud control plane. Attackers understand this and treat endpoints as their most reliable foothold for establishing persistence, harvesting credentials, and moving laterally without touching hardened perimeter controls. That shift changes defensive priorities: protecting endpoints is not a hygiene task, it is a primary control surface for business continuity. ...
