In reality, deep learning is a subset of machine learning, which in turn is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI). The first goal of this chapter is to help you understand what deep learning is really all about and how it applies to the world today. You may be surprised to learn that deep learning isn’t the only game in town; other methods of analyzing data exist. In fact, deep learning meets a specific set of needs when it comes to data analysis, so you might be using other methods and not even know it.
