In the late 1990s, my career was in the field of training for disaster recovery. Lives and company success depended on how fast we could get employees up to speed on handling natural disasters and keep our customers’ businesses going with minimal disruption. Then, in 1999, my co-worker suggested that I conduct a virtual training session using a new software technology called WebEx. Previously we trained using a traditional conference call. One exposure to WebEx’s visuals, two-way communication, and engaging tools to involve the learner, and I was hooked.
