Diameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションは、Diameterベースプロトコルで定義されている唯一のアプリケーションである。
本章では、RFC 6733の記述に沿ってDiameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションの解説を行う。
まず、3.1でアカウンティングとはどのようなことを目的としているのかを解説する。また、Diameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションがアカウンティングにおいて果たしている役割について解説する。
3.2では「RFC 6733 9. Accounting」の記述に沿って、Diameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションのプロトコル詳細を解説する。
3.3では、Diameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションで使用するDiameterコマンドについて解説する。
3.4では「RFC 6733 8.2. Accounting Session State Machine」の記述に沿って、Diameterベースアカウンティングアプリケーションが実装する必要がある状態機械について解説する。
3.5では、RFC 6733で定義されているアカウンティング関連のAVPの解説を行う。
3.1 アカウンティングアプリケーションとは
アカウンティングとは、以下の様な目的のためにリソースの使用状況に関する情報（以下、アカウンティングデータ）を収集する行為のことである。
（1）-1 課金
リソースの使用状況に応じた課金を行う。
（1）-2 コスト配分
リソースの使用状況を分析し、コスト構造を把握することにより、それぞれのリソースに対する適切なコスト配分を行う。
