3.4 AN IMPORTANT FEATURE IN THE DESIGN

OF A KARNAUGH MAP

3.4.1 Only Single Variable Changes into Its Complement

in a Pair of Adjacent Cells

We note an important observation in the Karnaugh map designs (Tables 3.1 to 3.13).

In a cell adjacent to any cell, whether on left or right or on up or down (not diagonal)

has only a single-variable changes into it’s complement.

In three-variable map, ﬁrst row ﬁrst column cell only C changes to C on mov-

ing to second column. In fact, each row; C is changing C in the right side adjacent

cell (Tables 3.1 to 3.4).
