SCREENPLAY GROUND RULES

 

Most fiction films start with a screenplay. It should be original, well written, and make good use of cinema. As its director, you must be involved to the point of fascination with the world it creates and with the ideas it puts forward, because you are going to be married to it for a long, long time.

It is certainly not within the scope of this book to cover the craft and technique of screen-writing, since there are many good books on that topic already available. Instead, this section addresses what happens after the screenplay leaves the hands of the writer and becomes a director’s film project.
