6 Storyboards
Storyboarding is the process by which the director breaks down his sequence into the various shots which he draws on storyboard paper (see below). This is a really useful discipline as it helps to clear the mind when deciding exactly what it is the audience needs to see. It is also a very efficient way of communicating your ideas to the director of photography. If the shot is a track then the usual practice is to draw the first and last frames of the shot. The problem comes if you cannot draw–which indeed I can’t! Then you have two options.
