8 Directing techniques
Comedy
The director’s most important function is to appear confident about the strength of the script. This is true of any type of dramatic direction but it is particularly true of comedy. This can be difficult enough if the comedy is being played by talented actors but when you have one or more star comedians in the cast it becomes even more difficult Comedians, as a dangerous generalization, are creatures of mood and often very insecure. If you are in a trade where you are considered to be as funny as your last show and it is evident that you have somehow been saddled with a script that is as funny as a mad cow at a Sunday school picnic then tensions are sure to rise.
