When starting work on a documentary, it is vital to set realistic goals and carve out the hours to do a proper job. When this doesn’t happen, the casualties are not simply to your sanity but also to the film. A schedule that is too aggressive will cause you to be less creative, less thorough, and more accepting of poor-quality work. Thus, the first stage of your editing process begins before you ever look at an image or make an edit: it starts when you plan your schedule.
