So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

What are the rules for editing short documentaries? It may be disappointing to hear, but there is simply too much heterogeneity in the genre to offer precise prescriptive templates. A peek around some of the major US-based outlets for short films—Short of the Week, NY Times Op-Docs, Field of Vision, New Yorker Documentary, Vimeo Staff Picks, Beyond The Short—yields a strikingly diverse set of films. There are at least as many ways of telling stories in short documentaries as there are in feature documentaries.
