The successful establishment of a professional digital recording format is highly dependent upon many factors. These include the timing of the format’s introduction, the technologies involved, technical performance achieved, emergence of early leaders and sustained growth of the related product family.
DVCAM has emerged as the fastest growing professional recording format in Sony’s history. If success is measured by market penetration, then analog Betacam earlier held that distinction, having reached 440,000 total units shipped worldwide over its seventeen-year life to date.
