It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Prepping the filesystem cache
On a restarted machine, the filesystem cache is empty and Elasticsearch will take a while to load the hot regions of the index into memory. Once done, this leads to faster operation. However, loading too many indices or too many files can slow down the search.
