When the line length falls below a value of 80 km, the equivalent circuit of the medium-length transmission line model may be simplified by omitting the shunt capacitances. In this way, only the total series impedance of the transmission line is taken into account.
The equivalent circuit of the medium-length transmission line is depicted in Figure E.5. The matrix expression for the voltage and the current at the sending end is:
