CHAPTER 5
MAGNETIC FORCES AND MATERIALS
5.1 INTRODUCTION
The fundamental concepts such as the force exerted by the magnetic field on moving charges, current elements and loops are covered in this chapter, which are important to understand the working principle of ammeters, voltmeters, galvanometers, plasmas, cyclotrons, motors and generators. The concept of boundary conditions for magnetostatics at the interface of two different mediums is also discussed.
This chapter starts with the explanation of force exerted on moving point charge, current element, forces and torques on current carrying conductors with a known current density distribution. The various types of magnetic materials, concept of magnetic moments and dipoles are also discussed. ...
