Like heat transfer, fluid mechanics is also considered to be a separate branch of the thermal sciences. Fluid mechanics is split into two major areas: fluid statics and fluid dynamics. In this chapter we can do no more than provide a basic introduction to these two branches of fluid mechanics that will hopefully serve as a useful foundation for any further study you may wish to undertake.
