TIME TO PLAY

Choose one of these to action this week.

  1. Feel first. Before you begin an email, host a meeting or design a program, ask yourself: How do I want it to feel? Make the experience your primary focus, then build everything around it in a way that fulfils that intention.
  2. Tune in to your senses. Become more attuned to how the world influences your emotions. Every time you use a product or service, interact with someone, or walk into a new environment, notice how it makes you feel. Try to decipher why it makes you feel that way and take notes. Keep these insights close and use them as a rich databank for shaping your ideas and intentions at work.
  3. Ask them how they feel. Customers, colleagues, strangers, friends. Your kids, your grandparents, your barista or bus driver. Take your conversation beyond the weather or weekend plans. Ask them open-ended questions about why they like the things they like. Why they chose the outfit they’re wearing. What they love (or hate) most about their experience at work. Enquiring and celebrating how they feel legitimises their experience. It gives them permission to tune in to their senses, to trust their instincts, to follow their flavour. You’re inviting them to participate in the entire spectrum of their human experience.
  4. Borrow, blend and bastardise. Feeling isn’t just limited to work. Most of your inspiration can and should come from experiences and environments outside the traditional business landscape. The next time you’re at ...
