When Macromedia, now Adobe, launched Flash 8 Professional and included the Flash video (FLV) encoder and playback component with the application, a valid argument could be made that this marked the final acceptance of Flash as a viable web video medium. As more and more sites started featuring Flash video, there was a corresponding decline in the number of sites that used the web video solutions provided by QuickTime, Windows Media, and Real Player. By that time, Flash Player could be found on more than 90% of all computers on the planet.
