PostgreSQL is another open source database option—an object-relational database system that is designed with an emphasis on standards compliance. As an ORDBMS, it allows data structures to be defined in a more object-oriented fashion, with tables that act like classes with the ability to inherit from other tables/classes. It still uses SQL—its own variant, but again, with mostly trivial differences for most development purposes—and has several Python options for connecting to and working with a database. It also has replication and clustering support, with the same sort of caveats noted for previous options.
