Choosing Your Partition Column
Wow, you’ve covered a lot of background. While the depth and breadth of background might seem overkill, there is a purpose. Table partitioning is a significant undertaking. You’ll want ample evidence that the investment of time and additional operational complexity will be worthwhile.
With that said, you’re ready to dive into the table partitioning details. Although you haven’t yet seen the other two types offered by PostgreSQL, you’ll implement RANGE partitioning here and then cover the other types more briefly afterward.
