Tab bars are one of the most common navigation patterns in native apps. Open up a few apps on your phone. Odds are a good portion of them have a tab bar at the bottom of the screen. Because they are so prevalent, users understand how to use them and expect them in their apps.
For example, this row of buttons along the bottom of an iOS app is the tab bar. In the built-in Clock app, each tab is a different use case or feature. World Clock is used to check what time it is in different time zones, and Timers is used to manage, well, timers.
