Chapter 8: Writing and publishing a research paper

Abstract

This chapter examines the final step in a research project: publishing the results. The HCI context for conference papers and journals papers is presented with reference to peer-review and the archival requirement for published research. The major sections of a research paper describing a user study are described: title, abstract, keywords, introduction, method (with subsections participants, apparatus, procedure, design), results and discussion, conclusion, and references. Tips for preparing the manuscript are provided, with a focus on formatting, citations, references, visual aids, and writing for clarity.
