I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Being certified is like having a key to a door that opens a room filled with colleague specialists. Typically, the questions on the RUP certification exam are carefully selected to ensure that in a small period of time, the candidate can prove his knowledge—knowledge that is consistent with the standards in the area of expertise. Jumping over the hurdle of certification is in the interest of both parties: the organization that sets the standards and welcomes new members and the individuals who want to become members and deserve the amenities that such membership affords them. This chapter takes a closer look at the motivations and benefits of the RUP certification.
