Azure VPN gateways are basically your core routers and firewalls within your Azure environment.

An Azure gateway can serve different purposes:

  • Internet gateway
  • Site-to-site VPN gateway
  • Point-to-site VPN gateway
  • ExpressRoute gateway
  • VNet-to-VNet gateway
