Introduction

In Chapter 5 we explored the various types of business impact associated with the management of Information Assets, namely:

  • risk;
  • cost;
  • value;
  • benefit; and
  • ethics.

We saw that managing Information Assets well can deliver very significant tangible, positive business outcomes whereas managing them badly can carry unacceptable risk and have unpleasant consequences.

In this chapter we will look at why the executive’s awareness of the importance of Information Assets to their organisations is critical to how those Information Assets are managed and the business implications that ensue.
