It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Summary
We spent this entire chapter discussing filters and filter effects, learning where they are used in Inkscape, and then how to create a filter effect for a vector object.
The last half of the chapter was dedicated to examples of using Potrace and SIOX. The next chapter will be dedicated to extensions in Inkscape.
