From an early age, we’re taught who to be and how to be.
Until we are 1–2 years old we use our own name, for example ‘John hungry’ developing into ‘Me hungry’. As soon as we start using pronouns, self-concept and self-image is born. Identity creation starts very young.
We get given labels. We take on other people’s beliefs. We develop preferences. We learn certain values from parents and other authority figures.
