Chapter 8. MST-Based Deployment Models

This chapter describes two Multiple Spanning Tree (MST)-based deployment models:

MST in N-PE: This solution requires that MST protocol be configured on all Layer 2 devices in the local data center. In addition, the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) root bridge placement must be moved from the aggregation to the WAN edge layer. This design achieves load balancing across the primary and backup N-PE by tuning the STP cost on a per-MST-instance basis. VLANs are split between two MST instances to achieve equal distribution of the application or organization traffic.
