10.1 Introduction

Holography allows us to use interferometry, with its very high precision and sensitivity, to study surfaces which are not optically smooth as required in conventional interferometry. For this reason, holographic interferometry (HI) has matured into a powerful, widely applied technique driven by industrial requirements for new materials with minimum waste in their production, processing, and reprocessing, and the manufacture of components made from them.
