5 Requirements for Holography
5.1 Introduction
In this chapter we discuss the basic requirements for the successful practice of holography. We have seen in Chapter 3 that in recording a hologram, we are in fact recording an interference pattern, so we need to ensure that the interference pattern remains stable for the duration of the recording.
The stability of the interference pattern imposes three requirements in practice. These are the mechanical and thermal stability of the interferometer used in making the holographic recording and the coherence of the light source.
