Interactions of energetic ions with polymers: chemical picture

A brief review of the chemistry and physics of polymers is presented. The polymers are characterised by molecular mass, strong intramolecular interactions between atoms in the macromolecule, and weak intermolecular interactions between neighboring macromolecules, glass transition temperature and crystallinity. Polymers can also contain stabilizers, antioxidants, vulcanizing agents, plasticizers, fillers, and other functional additives that affect their properties and responses to ion implantation.
