Interfacing the iPad

As early adopters immediately realised, the Apple iPad, although heavily oriented towards displaying photos, lacked the SD card or USB slots, which would have made it easy to load and update them. The USB connector also had become the most common substitute for the MIDI interface generally found on electronic instruments for over 20 years; so without either USB or MIDI interfacing on offer, the iPad at first seemed firmly cut off from the world of musical instrumentation.
