Chapter 3The Man Who Used to Smile

I find this image fascinating.

It is not about the former president. At best, he is a mere distraction. It's about his partner, former first lady Michelle Obama.

On so many occasions, our partners or friends are the driving force behind our success and, importantly, our own self‐awareness. Those who know us tend to notice our behavioural changes way before we do.

After every leadership summit, every coaching, mentoring or self‐discovery retreat that I've been on (and in a large corporate, you get sent on a lot), I'll share some new insight I've learned with my wife, and she'll say the following: ‘How many times have I told you that?’

It is a thankless task, being a partner. If only we listened to them more.

Bear with me, Maddie, I will get better.
