In the previous chapter, we discussed fitting covariance structures when observations were taken multiple times on the experimental units, either at several times or with multiple responses. Just as observations can be correlated across time, so can observations that are near each other in space. Often this similarity in response is accounted for through blocking criteria, but what can we do if there are no obvious blocking factors to use or if blocking did not “do the job”? Spatial covariance structures can help. Because spatial covariance structures are only available in the Mixed Model personality of Fit Model, spatial models are available in JMP Pro only.
