What can be found on an SD card?
By default, the SD card is typically used to store large files, including downloaded items and pictures that have been taken with the device. Many applications will also create their own directory on the SD card for storing data such as images that have been sent or received through chat applications. In some cases, as will be seen in Chapter 8, Android Forensic Tools Overview, there are even applications that will routinely perform a backup of all of their data to the SD card. This is especially useful to forensic examiners because they may not be able to access the internal memory due to security settings or the inability of obtaining root access, but may be able to access the SD card.
