I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The CAP theorem
Through tunable consistency, Cassandra allows us to choose where in the trade-off between consistency and failure-tolerance we are most comfortable. But the trade-off is there nonetheless; this is an unavoidable fact not just about Cassandra, but about all distributed systems. The trade-off between consistency and availability is formalized by the CAP theorem.
The CAP Theorem concerns the following three properties of a distributed system, from which it derives its name:
- Consistency in the CAP theorem refers to immediate consistency - the effects of a successful write operation must be immediately available to any client who wishes to read the data
