So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Custom settings for configuration parameters
Event Server uses applicationId as one of the query parameters to insert data into the event store, and we may want to protect the application key and keep it a secret. Protected Custom Settings are used inside Salesforce to protect data. For this application, all the settings are configured in the custom setting named PredictionIOSettings. The following screenshot shows the custom setting configuration. You will notice that we have two records--one for Event Server and the other for engine:
