Many people take photographs so that they can travel, and others travel so they can take photographs. Either way, shooting away from home is fun and exciting and full of great possibilities. This chapter discusses topics to help make travel photography easier and more fun. Some of these topics relate directly to lighting, and other things are just good ideas and tips for better photographs.

TRAVELING LIGHT: WHAT TO TAKE

Many photographers begin with a digital camera and one or maybe two lenses. This is great, and in some cases, this is all the photographic equipment that you need. For others, the camera bug can cause you to quickly fill a number of camera bags with lenses, flashes, filters, backup cameras, chargers, cords, and compact digital cameras.

With ever-changing air travel restrictions, it is a good idea to carefully consider your photographic equipment. Even when traveling by car, keeping on top of your camera, lens, and accessories is important. Keep your cameras in a well-protected bag or case, because cameras and lenses are expensive.
