1.1 Matrices and linear equations

The study of linear algebra is originated from linear equations. Linear equations are the most widely used mathematical models in science and technology. In practical applications, more complicated linear, or even nonlinear, equations can be established. For the convenience of further research, the concept of a matrix ought to be introduced to describe linear equations. In this section, several examples are used to demonstrate matrix representations, and also to show the importance of mathematical modeling of linear equations.
