2.1 INTRODUCTION

Ferromagnetic materials are widely used in the construction of electromagnetic devices. Among them, soft magnetic materials are generally employed to concentrate the magnetic flux in, for instance, the core of transformers and rotating electrical machines. During the operation of these devices, flux time variations are present and losses arise in the electrical steel affecting the performance.

Historically, several researchers studied iron losses and proposed models to simulate their behavior. These models can explain the dissipative process by microscopic or macroscopic approaches.
