Before you reach the end, about 2" (5cm) away,

poke across the surface with your needle several

times to secure the fibers (Figure

). Felt gently

through the fiber, just touching the surface of the

mat, to prevent the cap from felting into the mat.

TIP: Extend the life of your needles by

preventing needle breakage. Poke gently into

the mat: just touch the surface, and don’t

punch deeply into it.

Roll and fold the end of the sliver. Felt the

surface a few times to secure the fibers (Figure

E

). Fold in half to form a round form (Figure

F
