Chapter 6. AI and Onchain Applications
The decentralized web is often called web3, the next-generation step from the “web2” world of user-created content now powered by big centralized social media companies. In contrast to this, web3 is a collection of independent blockchains that each maintain their own canonical ledger of transactions. Together, these chains form separate, but interoperable, environments - a brand-new, onchain world.
For AI agents operating in this environment, whether that is a wallet, onchain app, or an automated trading bot - interaction is not trivial. Each agent relies on an interaction stack that translates high-level intent (see subsection) into precise blockchain operations and converts raw blockchain data back into usable information. This stack functions much like a nervous system for onchain applications.
