要旨：純粋なピアツーピアの電子通貨を実現すれば、金融機関を介在させずに一方の当事者が相手方に直接送金するオンライン支払いが可能になる。その一部はデジタル署名によって実現できるが、二重支払いを防ぐために信頼された第三者が必要になるのであれば、最大のメリットが失われる。本論文は、ピアツーピアネットワークを使った二重支払い問題の解決方法を提案する。このネットワークは、トランザクション（取引データ）をハッシュし、そのハッシュをもとにproof-of-work（作業の証明）の切れ目のないチェーンを作って、トランザクションにタイムスタンプを与える。このチェーンは、個々のproof-of-workをやり直さない限り変更できない記録になる。最長のチェーンは、目撃された一連の出来事の証明としてだけでなく、それが最大のCPUパワーのプールから発信されたことの証明にもなる。共謀してネットワークを攻撃しているノード以外のノードがCPUパワーの過半を支配している限り、彼らの方が攻撃者よりも先に最長のチェーンを作れる。ネットワーク自体に求められる構造は最小限のものである。メッセージはベストエフォートでブロードキャストすればよいし、ノードはネットワークに接続していないときに起きたことの証明として最長のproof-of-workチェーンを受け入れる限り、自由にネットワークから離れたり、再び参加したりしてよい。 ...
