この付録は、サトシ・ナカモト著「ビットコイン：ピアツーピア電子通貨システム」の既知の問題点と論文発表後の用語の変化、論文と実装の違いをまとめた文書を再録したものです。
もともとは本書の共著者が2016年に発表したものですが、更新を加えてここに再録しています。節のタイトルは、ナカモトの原論文の節のタイトルに対応しています。
要旨
「最長のチェーンは、目撃された一連の出来事の証明としてだけでなく、それが最大のCPUパワーのプールから発信されたことの証明にもなる。」
● 実装の細部：チェーンの各リンク（ビットコインで「ブロック」と呼ばれているもの）が同じ量の作業の証明（PoW）で作られているなら、最長チェーンは計算パワーがもっとも大きいプールが作ったものになりますが、ビットコインはブロックによって必要なPoWの大きさを変えられるように実装されました。そのため、「最長チェーン」ではなく「もっとも多くのPoWを集めたチェーン」をチェックすることが大切になりました。これはよく「もっとも作業量が多いチェーン（most-work chain）」と略されます。
最長チェーンのチェックからもっとも作業量が多いチェーンのチェックへの変更（https://oreil.ly/XYZzx）は、ビットコインの最初のリリースからかなりたった2010年7月に行われました。
