There are actually three different types of authentication provided by Cloudinary. A signing URL is the only option available to free Cloudinary accounts. They also support more sophisticated auth token and cookie-based options, which require Enterprise plans, but which offer much more robust configuration options, including time limiting and IP access restrictions. If you have image privacy needs beyond what Signed URLs can provide for your application, you will need to upgrade your Cloudinary account:
| Signed URL | Token | Cookie | |
| Time limited | No | Yes | Yes |
| IP restriction | No | Yes | Yes |
| User-session limited | No | No | Yes |
| Pattern-based access (ACL) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Customizable access per image | No | Yes | Yes |
| CDN caching | Yes | Yes |
