This chapter describes the details of the Motorola 68000 microprocessor. The basic architecture, addressing modes, instruction set, and interfacing features of the Motorola 68000 are included.
The MC68000 is Motorola’s first 16-bit microprocessor. All 68000 address and data registers are 32 bits wide and its ALU is 16 bits wide. The 68000 is designed using HMOS technology. The 68000 requires a single 5V supply. The processor can be operated from a maximum internal clock, frequency of 25 MHz. The 68000 is available in several frequencies.
